About Us

Softland, the company that develops the Backup2 suite of backup programs, has achieved the Microsoft Certified Partner status with an ISV/Software Solutions Competency.

Microsoft Certified Partner
Backup2 FTP is a backup program for Windows that will back-up your important data only to remote FTP locations.
Backup to FTP

It can automatically protect your important files and folders using the scheduler and also offers password protection for the compressed backup files.

This backup program can back-up open (locked) files and it can perform full, differential, incremental and mirror backups. This means that the resulting backup can be stored either in standard zip format or without any compression at all.

When defining a back-up job you can set source filters, so that only specific files/folders will be backed-up. Once the back-up finishes, you can see what files have been changed since the last backup or read statistics about the next backup execution.

Predefined backups, such as My Documents, My Pictures, Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or IE Favorites, make it easier to back-up specific applications or data. Additionally, other backup plugins can be freely installed from our extensive online library.

This backup program creates standard zip files, which means that you can access the saved backup files with any zip compatible utility. Furthermore, with support for the ZIP64 format, you can back-up files larger than 2GB.

It keeps track of file versions which means that you can easily restore any version of files or an entire folder. As with sources, the files/folders to be restored can be filtered too. The resulting backup files are automatically tested to ensure that there aren't any errors (uses CRC32).

Can be installed and used on Windows 2000, 2003 Server, XP, Vista, Server 2008, Windows 7 and offers multi language support.

Standard compression format

The Backup2 applications create standard zip files. This means that the backup file is compatible with any zip utility. Unlike other backup programs, if the resulting zip backup files are greater than 2GB, zip64 technology will be used. This means that the resulting backup file (in zip format) can have an unlimited size and let you encrypt the zip files using AES encryption (256-bits).

Predefined backup jobs

By default, several predefined backup plugins are installed, and these let you easily define a backup job for: My documents, My pictures, Outlook Express emails and settings, Internet Explorer favorites, Mozilla Firefox profiles, Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook emails and settings.

Backup plugins

You can install backup plugins to backup/restore the settings of specific programs. A plugin is actually an XML file that once installed adds a predefined backup. For example, a backup plugin for Mozilla Thunderbird, when installed, will automatically add in the Predefined Backup list an entry for it, so when defining a new backup job if that’s selected, Mozilla Thunderbird emails and settings will be added as source for the new backup.

Backup statistics

These statistics will show information about the number of files that will be backed up and the total calculated size of the resulting backup files, as well as information regarding the number of excluded/deleted/unchanged files and the available free space on the destination.

File version tracking

Each Backup2 application tracks file versions. This means that you can selectively restore any previous version of a file that was backed up.

Multiple backup types

There are four backup types to choose from: full backup, differential backup, incremental backup and mirror backup. This allows backing up the files using standard zip compression, or simply mirroring them without any compression at all.

Intuitive Interface

The Getting Started window offers quick links to the main functions (backup and restore) as well as information for first time users. If you prefer the Explorer-like interface, the Backup2 applications offer an Explore View that lets you see all files and folders that are in the backup job, with information on which ones will be stored at the next backup execution. You can sort and search the file tree in Explore view.

Backup to FTP

Backup2 is a set of backup programs, the main difference between each of them being the destination type they back up to, as each of them stores the backup on a distinct destination.

Mirror backup with zip

While full, differential and incremental backup types create compressed (zip) backups, the mirror backup type creates an exact copy of the files and folders that are selected as sources. However, there's an additional option that lets you individually zip the files when using mirror backup.

Scheduled backups

You can schedule backup jobs to be executed automatically, so that your important files will be backed up at specific dates. This eases the backup process because you set it once and forget about it.

Automatic updates

You can configure it to check for updates either manually or automatically at a scheduled date. This way you'll be able to keep your program up-to-date without any hassles.

Adding sources is easy

Multiple files and folders can be added as sources using the folder tree, or you can include/exclude them individually. Even more, sources can be added by dragging them from Windows Explorer (or another file manager) and dropping them into the sources window.

Open file backup

The Backup2 programs use the Volume Shadow Copy service which let you back up files in use (local open files) from NTFS partitions in Windows Vista, XP, 2003 and 2008 Server. As an example, you can back up Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Mozilla Thunderbird emails and settings without closing them.

Easily backup and restore data

Even if you're seeing the program for the first time, the backup wizard will allow you to easily create a backup job and start protecting your data. It's as simple as selecting Where to back-up (destination), What to backup (sources), How to backup (what backup type to use) and When to backup (scheduling automatic backups).
